Too young for business?

Monday, April 5th, 2010

young1 223x300 Too young for business?

An issue we often fight in business is the fact that we are both 19 years old. People often confuse lack of age & lack of experience as the same thing. Does experience really matter? Jason Fried of 37 Signals said “How long someone’s been doing it is overrated. What matters is how well they’ve been doing it.”

Our ideas help clients reach their target audience in a way that delivers positive results and that has nothing to do with our age!
Does it matter where a good idea comes from? Does age somehow quantify how good the idea is…? If the idea is good the age of the contributor shouldn’t matter. Good ideas are good ideas.

Age/Experience are not numbers that matter; the only numbers that matter are the results of our ideas.

We designed a Jeff Saturday poster for The People’s Burn Foundation that was used as a fund raising item at the AFC Championship. The result: a little over $5,000 was raised in two hours. Age/Experience had nothing to do with the result of our efforts. Check out some photos from the event.

Lego Lucas Oil Model!

Monday, March 15th, 2010

I was watching the news earlier today and saw 1/250 scale model of Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium… Made entirely out of Legos! This thing is awesome.

Here you can see the outside of the replica of the Lego Lucas Oil

The retractable roof works just like the real thing.

The retractable roof works and the lighting and press box can be seen as well. Check out this picture of the jumbotron.

Recently we designed an advertisement for The People’s Burn Foundation. You might remember hearing about it in a previous Halogen Designs blog post Using Facebook In Business where we talk about finding a photographer via facebook to document our work at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Jeff Saturday Poster Design Indianapolis

Jeff Saturday Poster Design Indianapolis

Halogen Designs had the opportunity to design a Jeff Saturday poster for this weekend’s fundraiser for the People’s Burn Foundation (PBF) at the AFC Championship. Anyone who donates outside Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis will receive this limited edition Jeff Saturday poster.

Use of Design:

We chose this photo of Jeff Saturday because it represents charging ahead and not looking back; this is relevant to the current status of  both the Colts and PBF organizations. This poster was designed when the Colts had just come off of two tough losses. They have now overcome them by winning 20-3 in their last game against the Ravens. PBF has faced tough economic challenges and is now moving ahead into the future leaving the past behind by engaging the community to support burn victims and their families. We tried to captivate the imagery of both situations by adding a grunge effect to fade out whats behind Jeff. The grunge effect served as good contrast to enhance the colors of Saturday’s blue jersey charging ahead demonstrating that whats behind him isn’t relevant to the future.

We encourage everyone to stop by Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday to donate & receive a Limited Edition Jeff Saturday Poster designed by Halogen Designs.

Using Facebook in Business

Monday, November 9th, 2009

Recently we had the great opportunity of doing a billboard for The People’s Burn Foundation that was displayed on the Lucas Oil Billboard directly outside the main gate.

We quickly realized the need to document this success and what better way than with a professional photographer. Our goals were simple: Find someone who is experienced and affordable. Having a good sized friend base I posted the following status update that was displayed to my friends, “James George needs a photographer for paying job in downtown indy. Please comment if interested.” I received 1 comment and 2 messages from this post. We chose Abigail Coffeen and aren’t looking back. You can find her public facebook page here Check out some of the pictures she did for us on my public facebook album.

In these changing times Halogen Designs and The People’s Burn Foundation realized the need to communicate directly with their readers via media they use everyday. The answer to this was social networking. The next issue PBF faced was how can to automate news story posting to various social networking sites (myspace, linkedin, facebook, twitter) to reduce workload on the PBF administrators. Halogen Designs created a solution using ping.fm and our Content Management System (CMS), Control, to post links to recently posted news stories onto their various social networking sites. Now when PBF posts a news story, it is simultaneously posted to the news section of peoplesburnfoundation.org, PBF’s Facebook page, and Twitter.

Halogen Designs has recognized the use of social networking in business and is constantly teaching our clients how to take quick and easy actions to leverage this new phenomena. If your business posts multiple new stories a month, a similar solution could be viable and very profitable to your business.
